Wow. Not sure how I missed it until alerted via email today, but we lost a good man and a good poet (and not a bad essayist, thank you, too) over a week ago. Here is a fine tribute to Tony Hoagland in the New York Times obituary pages.
And, from only a month before his death to pancreatic cancer, there’s this must read from The Sun by Tony.
Our hearts go out for this loss, but as our thanks go out, too, for the gains in our reading lives and in our lives as poets and Americans.
Tony, we will miss you but never forget you.

Oh no, I hadn’t heard. I am devastated. Have always loved Hoagland.
We must have been so distracted by the horror stories in the news that his death was barely whispered. Thank you for your tribute. I’ll be reading some more of his work this week in his memory.
Once again, I’m reminded why I love The Sun Magazine and really should renew my subscription, time has gotten away from me again…thank you for passing on the word of the loss of Tony Hoagland, he will be missed.
Thank you for passing on this news as well as the two links. I have intended for a while to read more of Hoagland’s poetry and now would be an excellent time. I’m also glad to have had the opportunity to read his essay as I didn’t realize he wrote prose.
I highly recommend his essays on poetry, Susan.
